ABOUT LIP

LIP is a language school based in Växjö, Sweden.

Established in 1994, we provide individual and group-based language courses for company personnel.

All of our courses are tailor-made to suit our customer's individual needs and requirements.

The language course we offer include:

English: Accounting, Banking, Business, Financial, Technical, General and Specialist English

French: Basic and Business French

German: Basic and Business German

Spanish: Basic and Business Spanish

Swedish: Basic, General, Business, Fast-Track and Swedish for Immigrants

In addition to language courses, we provide a professional translation service, proof-reading service, student testing and company language training evaluation.

We are also developing a new Distance Learning Programme to make our services more widely available.

COURSES - ENGLISH

ACCOUNTING ENGLISH

Many people in business today think that finance and accounting are one and the same and it is only when they need to study English that they see that there is a big difference in the terminology used.

BANKING ENGLISH

This is a course designed to help professional learners of English improve their financial vocabulary as well as their knowledge of finance.

The course is for people already working in the Banking sector and also for people who will shortly begin employment in this market and will need to improve their English vocabulary.

There is a beginners' course, but the intermediate and upper intermediate students' course will enable students to sit the Cambridge ICFE examination.

BUSINESS ENGLISH

We offer tailor-made courses for your personnel at levels from false-beginner to advanced.

Students will learn skills such as how to conduct themselves in meetings, how to write and respond to business correspondence, as well as business vocabulary and social skills that are vital for survival in the English-speaking business world!

In addition to being native English speakers, our teachers here at LiP have real-world business experience - we don't just teach from a book!

Courses are available as one-to-one lessons or in groups, either at our offices here in Växjö or at your company premises.

BUSINESS ENGLISH (intensive)

We offer a tailor-made course for your personnel, with total immersion in English.

Courses are about a week in length and consist of lessons during the day and socialising during the evening. This is an increasingly popular and highly effective method.

GENERAL ENGLISH

These courses are designed directly for students that need to develop their general English vocabulary as well as grammar and are targeted more at using English in "everyday life" situations rather than the business world.

This area covers all the specific, specialist courses that we are asked for. As with our other courses, these courses are designed directly according to the students needs.

There are many courses in this category but the most commonly requested ones are as follows:

This set of courses is designed to meet the needs of people in the technical world who have to communicate in English during their working lives.

Students include mechanics, electricians, forestry workers and people working in technical production/manufacturing.

This course is a basic course in French for the student and takes them from the very first phrases through to conversational French that anyone can use in everyday life.

The combination of lessons in the classroom with our native French teachers, textbook and workbook sessions, conversation, listening to CDs and reading of literature in French help the student advance very quickly.

As the course is tailor-made the student can advance at the pace that they wish.

Business French is a course designed for professional students who have to work in France or who have international contacts in France.

All topics are covered from the language of meetings to the wonderful language of socialising that is integral to the French way of life.

The student learns how to write business letters and emails, as well as business protocol and other areas that only native French business people would know.

This is an exciting course for anyone wishing to live and work in France or just to understand their international partners a little better.

Basic German is a lively and entertaining course for the student who suddenly has to have contact with colleagues in Germany and needs to understand basic phrases. It is designed for the complete beginner and for anyone wishing to improve their German.

The combination of lessons in the classroom, text and workbook sessions, conversation, listening to CDs and reading German literature help the student to advance very quickly.

As the course is tailor-made, the student can advance at the pace that they wish.

This course is designed for professional students who suddenly need to have contact with companies in Germany or German-speaking countries. It is tailor-made for the specific needs of the student and covers everything from business terminology to writing professional email and letters. Students look at company presentations and how to explain their own work in German.

A fun and lively course using a mix of materials from textbooks and real working material from the students' own company, combined with the knowledge of a native German business teacher, the student progresses quickly through the maze of German business language and protocol.

Students quickly learn everyday phrases, helping them to make use of everyday grammar, to understand the formulas and to improve their pronunciation.

The combination of lessons in the classroom, text and workbook sessions, conversation, listening to CDs and reading Spanish literature help the student advance very quickly.

As the course is tailor-made the student can advance at the pace that they wish.

This is a course designed for the professional who needs to do business in Spain or a Spanish-speaking country. It takes the student through basic business language concepts, how to write letters and email, and how to conduct themselves at meetings.

As with any international business relationship there is always a lot of protocol to follow and our native Spanish teachers guide the student through this easily.

This is a fun and lively course that quickly gets the student out in the working world with their Spanish skills and new-found confidence.

Basic Swedish is for the student that has recently arrived in Sweden - maybe as a partner of someone who has moved to Sweden for work purposes.

This course quickly takes the student through basic phrases used in everyday life as well as showing the student a little about the way of life in Sweden, from shopping to education to holidays and customs.

Another area that is looked at briefly is the role of various authorities in Sweden and their role in society for the student.

This course is designed for students who have completed the basic course, or for students who already have some knowledge of the Swedish language.

The purpose of the course is to help the student approach fluency by practising conversation skills through discussion in addition to studying grammar and literature in greater depth.

This is a fun and lively course and requires full student participation if the student is to gain the knowledge that they need in order to live and work in Sweden.

Business Swedish is a continuation course for those who have already studied the fast track or basic Swedish courses and are living or working in Sweden but need to study Swedish in greater depth.

This course takes the student through grammar structure and business phrases enabling them to write emails, letters and basic reports in order to be able to communicate effectively with their Swedish colleagues.

Many students are required to give presentations at work. This skill is practised during the course, allowing the student to work on their own company material.

Conversation and listening skills improve rapidly through intense discussions. Comprehension skills develop quickly by reading literature. Written skills improve through better understanding of grammar structures and by practising email and letter writing.

Fast-Track Swedish is for people that have moved to Sweden through employment and need to learn Swedish quickly both for integrating into the "Swedish way of life" and for feeling their way around the work environment.

This is a short introductory course often offered to the employee by their employer. It is the first step into the Swedish language for those who are adjusting to and integrating with a new culture.

So whether you are an employee newly-arrived in Sweden or an employer with a newly-arrived employee from another country this course is a must for quickly gaining confidence and language skills at the start of your new adventure!

This course is designed for immigrants that need to learn Swedish and the "Swedish way of life" in greater depth than the fast track Swedish course.

This course teaches students not only the language, but also about Swedish culture and history and the way Sweden is today.

Students learn to speak, write, listen and read in Swedish and competence quickly develops, allowing the student to use their new-found knowledge after the very first lesson!

SERVICES

Language Courses

We offer language training courses for individuals and groups. We teach several different languages and can offer both general and specialised subjects in the language of choice. For a detailed list of our courses, click the courses button above.

Translation

We offer translation services for documents, websites and certificates in many different language combinations.

Proof Reading

We offer a proof reading service to companies, prior to printing of documentation and brochures. We also offer proof reading services to university students, prior to completion and handing in of thesis work.

Testing

We test all students prior to them starting a course with us, in order to establish their level of proficiency. We utilise the Oxford placement test as well as our own test which shows students' skills regarding usage of language. We do this for every course, as it is necessary to accurately establish every student's level, and also to create the tailor-made courses that we offer. We also offer testing as a standalone service for anyone requiring verification of their current language level which is often required when applying for jobs.

We have over 22 years of experience in evaluating both company and personnel language training needs. We can evaluate your company's language needs to find the right courses for you and your staff.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are all your courses for groups only?

No. We offer individual courses as well as group courses. These are often called "One-on-One" courses. Courses with two or more students are classed as group courses.

Is there a minimum number of students required to run a course?

No. All courses are tailor-made to suit the customer, so they can be anything from a single student to a full class of students.

Do you limit the maximum number of students per course?

Yes. There is a maximum number per group, which is set so that each student receives the maximum possible attention. After 22 years of teaching courses we have found that there should be no more than 8 students in any single group - and ideally we recommend 6 students.

Are there any restrictions on who can be in a class?

We aim to only have students of the same level in a group, although they can have varying skills, which helps everyone develop their confidence and self-esteem. We try not to have Managers in the same group as their personnel, so that everyone can relax and benefit from their course, without being afraid of making mistakes or being under added pressure.

Can I study any language I like?

Yes you can! All our courses are planned after the needs of the customer and we offer a wide range of languages and specialization in any of the languages is possible, such as technical, business, beginners, advanced and so on.

Is the price the same for every course?

No the price is not the same for every course. Individual and group courses have different base rates per 45 minute lesson. The price of the full course is then worked out depending on the number of lessons that the student/s require to fulfil the specifications set by the employer.

Can we begin a course at anytime?

Absolutely. Due to the courses being tailor-made this allow greater flexibility and therefore a course can begin at any time and can run in any format.

Are all the courses 12 weeks long?

Courses vary in length and time depending on the needs of the students. They can be from 6 to 12 weeks long, or longer depending on how many lessons are studied at any one time. They can even be intensive one or two week courses of 20+ lessons. There are so many possibilities to meet all the needs that we are asked for, that it is often only after initial contact has been made with us that we can tell you which alternative best suits your needs.

How long has LiP been in Växjö?

LiP started in Växjö in February 1996

What was the idea behind LiP starting?

LiP was the first private language school to be started in Växjö and came about because there was a need for language education for companies with greater flexibility. At the time you could only study language courses at evening classes or study circles.

How many teachers are there at LiP?

There are over 20 teachers teaching various languages at LiP as well as additional teachers who work when required for specialist courses.

Are all the teachers native speakers?

Yes! All the teachers working at LiP are native speakers of the language that they teach. Each teacher has a specialisation or background in employment that enables us to meet the needs of our customers from business qualifications (including banking and accounting) to various technical qualifications.

Do the teachers at LiP have real experience of the business world?

Yes! All LiP's teachers have worked in the business world at some point during their career, and it is this experience that enables them to understand the needs of the customer and the flexibility required when studying and working at the same time.

Are the photos on your website of real LiP students and teachers?

This might seem like a strange question for an FAQ, but we have been asked this many times! The answer is yes! Unlike some of our competitors, all of the photos on our website are of students who attended courses at our offices, along with some of our teachers who are not camera shy! We wouldn't buy a product from a company that advertises using images that do not represent the goods on offer, and we don't see why our clients should either!

Do we have to attend our courses in Växjö at LiP?

No! At LiP we believe in flexibility so if the customer requires the teacher to come to their offices, then the teacher will travel to the customer.

Do you offer courses outside the Växjö area?

Yes! The teachers at LiP travel far and wide and teach in the following counties: Kronoberg, Kalmar, Jönköping, Blekinge, Halland and Skåne.

Do you offer courses abroad?

Yes we do! At present we mainly take groups of students to England but other countries are possible, it just depends on the needs of the customer.
